CHP units convert a single fuel into both electricity and heat in a single process at the point of use.
Providing almost continuous operation, a CHP engine requires only a single fuel to function, simplifying your infrastructure requirements.
The engine (coupled to an alternator) generates power, which is then converted into usable electricity to meet on-site energy demands.
Simultaneously, heat is recovered from the engine exhaust, jacket and water/oil cooling circuit. The heat is then made available for redistribution on-site.

What is a CHP? What is a CHP system?
CHP, or Combined Heat and Power, is a solution which produces heat and power (electricity) onsite from a single fuel. This is also known as cogeneration, and can be part-powered by hydrogen as a net zero solution. Some CHP units also generate chilled water, known as trigeneration.
What is the role of Combined Heat and Power?
CHP can reduce energy spend and reliance on the grid through onsite generation.
Does CHP need gas?
Some CHP units use natural gas, but many use other fuels. The Digest of UK Energy Statistics states that renewable fuels power around 15% of CHP capacity in the UK, and some are powered with green gas certifications.
CHP is also already available with 20% blended hydrogen - and further tests are ongoing. This ranges from a 20-40% blend to 100% hydrogen engines, future-proofing CHP.
How does CHP use waste energy?
CHP captures heat produced in electricity production, such as from water cooling circuits. This can then be redistributed onsite, providing simultaneous heat and power production.
